Job Description:

They require a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Advisor to help implement health and safety protocols within our marine and dry dock environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maritime safety regulations, risk assessment, and incident prevention. This role will require a proactive approach to identify potential hazards, develop safety procedures, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Safety Policies: Create and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures tailored to the unique challenges of marine and dry dock operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant maritime safety regulations, including those set forth by regulatory agencies such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and others. Ensure company compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments of marine and dry dock operations to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Training and Education: Coordinate safety training programs for employees, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders. Ensure all personnel are adequately trained in safety protocols and procedures.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of vessels, equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with safety standards. Develop and implement audit protocols to assess safety performance.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop emergency response plans and procedures for marine and dry dock operations. Coordinate drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency protocols.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Foster a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout the organization. Encourage open communication regarding safety concerns and suggestions for improvement.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including operations, maintenance, and engineering, to integrate safety considerations into all aspects of marine and dry dock activities.

Qualifications:

  • Degree educated within an appropriate subject
  • Full NEBOSH accreditation
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a health and safety role within the maritime industry, specific experience in marine and dry dock operations would be preferable.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards, such as SOLAS, ISM Code, and OSHA regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and develop effective safety strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and educate employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with experience leading safety initiatives and fostering a culture of safety excellence.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
